TiE London Awards 2018

Entrepreneurs gathered in Knightsbridge at the Carlton Jumeirah on 5 December to celebrate the launch of the TiE London Awards.

Sold out a month beforehand and no doubt soon to be an institution, the TiE London Awards, created by the current TiE London President, Nina Amin, MBE saw some of London’s best and brightest come to the stage for a series of Awards centered around their Entrepreneurial feats.

The evening began with an interview with Rajeev Misra, CEO of Softbank’s Vision Fund, in conversation with Nina Amin, who gave an insight into the vision behind the largest technology fund ever raised of almost $100billion, and talked about some of the disruptive technologies they are investing in.   This was followed by Nitin Ganatra, the evening’s compare, taking the helm to introduce the much-anticipated Awards.

A truly star-studded affair, the nominations for every category were stellar. Serial tech entrepreneur, Vin Murria OBE took the title of “Woman of the Year” and Highbrow co-founder Priyanka Raswant won “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” for her inspirational on-demand video platform for children’s educational content.  The award for the “Fastest Growing business” went to The Indo UK Institute of Health who have recently partnered with the NHS and grown their company’s valuation from £60,000 to $600M and more.

Entrepreneur of the Year winner, hotelier Surinder Arora won for his astonishing growth and breadth of talent, a man who began with one hotel and is now bidding to build Heathrow’s third runway is a real inspiration.

More unlikely categories included Interpreneur of the year, celebrating those entrepreneurial spirits in the corporate world who are bringing some lateral thinking sparkle to the table. Sujata Rastogi of HSBC took this award home.

An extra award was added when judging due to the number of outstanding nominees, The Chairman’s Award was presented on the night by Lord Jitesh Gadhia to Dr Noorpuri founder of i-GP, one of the most innovative digital healthcare companies worldwide.

Much to guests delight, the awards weren’t the only highlight of the evening with fashion from top Indian label Monga’s stealing the limelight before dinner and comedian Neil Mullarkey keeping everyone entertained with his stand up show inspirational parody, Don’t be Needy, Be Suceedy through the latter part of the evening.

With an impressive guest list and stellar entertainment, towards the end of the evening guests were already excited to discuss nominations for TiE London Awards 2019.  With such an impressive debut we can only see big things for TiE London in 2019. One thing’s for sure, we’re getting the next Award Date in our diary now.
